The Science behind Skin Ageing and Beauty Products Demystified

skin aging reasons

The primitive dream to keep our skin looking young and remain healthy is coming true, all thanks to recent research in the laboratory.

While you stand in front of your mirror and gaze at your own reflection, you go on carrying out your daily beauty regime of cleansing, toning and moisturizing. Decades pass by but you continue in your attempt to remove those fine wrinkle lines, maintain skin elasticity, and illuminate your complexion – all in an effort to turn back the time and maintain your youth. You are not alone. Almost all women around the world, driven by the advertisements, take these steps, and long to hide the signs of ageing. You are convinced that these products are the solutions to one’s worries. But at the same time, there are many sceptics who consider these products which are a result of skin cream science to be pure and fine rubbish.

It is not a wonder to find that people are so cynical of these products even after they’ve been publicized with the over usage of scientific terms. This is the root of the problem. It’s the hype created by the advertising industry for such products which connote these products as lacking in scientific basis. A careful study into the claims will tell one that these products have their base in pure science.

The skin’s content of the number of collagen and elastic fibres decreases as we age. Thus the skin starts losing its elasticity which results and sagging and wrinkling of the skin. Skin ageing is far more than the formation of wrinkles on its surface. As you age, your skin’s texture and colour will also change which are deeper signs that the ageing process is at work. Science has come to the rescue by providing a number of precautionary measures that will help to halt or at least slow down these changes. They include protecting your skin from being directly subjected to the Sun, as Sun’s ultraviolet rays are known to damage and contribute to premature ageing of your skin and also to staying away from smoking or chewing tobacco, which apart from a number of harmful impacts on your body, also hugely fastens skin ageing. Science has helped us by providing an array of compounds which may lessen these effects as we age. In fact, a lot of research is being done in this field, which includes a lot of scientists working to uncover the secrets that lie behind maintaining fine skin.

So the next time you come across an advertisement for an anti-ageing beauty product for your skin, do not think it is a bag full of rubbish. Remember the amount of toil, time and money that goes behind actual scientific research that helps device these products.
