Bus fares take sky route this Diwali

This Diwali, people who are planning to travel would drill a deeper hole in their pockets. Most private bus operators have raised their fares by 40 to 60 percent this festive season. The reason provided is the “huge demand for their air-conditioned coaches”. Fueling the rates are skyward airfares and choc-a-bloc trains forcing many to opt for buses to travel home.

Starting from 15th October, Hyderabad – Bangalore trip will cost Rs 1,200 which otherwise costs Rs 700. Whereas the Hyderabad-Mumbai trip will cost Rs 2,000 which otherwise costs Rs 850, says an official of a travel agency.

Raj Travels is also planning to increase bus fares from October 15. Hyderabad to Mumbai from Rs 840 to Rs 1,260, informs MA Saleem, assistant manager, Raj Travels. He says it is the first time they are experiencing such a heavy rush.
