The phrase ‘Love Aaj Kal’ is a contrasting phrase that compares love to two different times or rather in two different generations, with lovers having different thoughts, mentalities, and ideologies. The tagline suggests that here Love plays the main role and the side part is acted by the time.
‘Love’
Though generations have passed love has not changed its color by a great deal, the only thing that has changed is the way of expressing love and love-making. Love is an eternal feeling which lies inside every human being but with time and mentalities, the behavior varies from lover to lover.
‘Aaj’
Though in modern days, many people underestimate true love as now it is more common among people of all ages starting from 14-15 years. This fact clearly depicts that love is now mostly prevailed among teenagers so most of them cannot last their love for a long time. But people forget that these are not true love, rather these are just infatuations or crazes for one another. Hence when they face the real world, they forget their infatuations along with their so-called love.
‘Kal’
In the early generations, lovers used to be very serious about love as love used to come after a certain age and by then most of the lovers become self-dependent and more practical. In fact, in most cases, love completed its journey through the wedding till death. Some examples of eternal lovers are Romeo-Juliet, Laila-majnu, and many more, whose life destroyed by the venom of love.
Recently a film was picturized on the same fact ‘Love Aaj Kal’, directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Saif Ali Khan.
Love Aaj Kal
Jai is a modern-day lover, he loved Meera. But like all other lovers, he also took it as a fun and time pass. Then twist comes in the story as elder Veer narrates his love story of the old generation and brings the feeling in Jai that his love was true. The film concluded in a different pattern showing that even after marriage, the lovers met and sacrificed their past feelings to start a new life.
Main Casting
Saif Ali Khan as Jai and younger Veer Singh
Deepika Padukone as Meera Pandit
Giselle Monteiro as Harleen Kaur
Rishi Kapoor as elder Veer Singh
Thus, whatever may be the time; love holds its own position in everyone’s life. Though the love of ‘Kal’ has more preference over the love of ‘Aaj’ as it was more dramatic and emotion-based.
So, we can’t completely state that LOVE AAJ KAL is about Today’s love as love holds its significance equally over today and yesterday.
