For more than 50 years XLRI (Xavier Labor Relations Institute) is conducting Admission Test on All India basis to pick the most suitable students for management education. Their long expertise and experience have helped them to widen this test to other Management Institutes as well. There are about 60 other Management Institutes who are choosing students from XAT (Xavier Admission Test). Applicants longing for joining XLRI or any other institutions have to appear for XAT.

The XAT is conducted for admittance to Post-Graduate degree Programs in Management at XLRI, XISS, XIM, LIBA etc.

The Test is conducted to select the most fitting students for XLRI management education. The XLRI is rated amongst the premiere 5 Business Schools in India. Apart from XLRI, there are roughly 42 other management institutes who use XAT score for admissions.

Pattern of XAT:

  • 2 hours duration
  • Additional 20 minutes provided for essay writing
  • Conducted on the first Sunday of January
  • There are approximately 120 questions
  • The question paper is divided into 3 sections viz. Quantitative Aptitude & DI, Verbal Ability,  Logical Reasoning & Decision making
  • 250 – 300 word essays with topics ranging from propositions to those of social relevance to abstract.

Eligibility:

A three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any stream recognized by the AIU as eligible for Post Graduate studies in Management.
Application Procedure:

Applicant has to follow the process given below:

  1. Obtain the XAT Bulletin and XLRI Prospectus from XAT Office, XLRI Jamshedpur, and from select branches of State Bank of India spread over more than 111 cities in India.
  2. Log on to the institute website and select XLRI Registration. Here he/she has to fill in the XLRI form and pick the program(s) he/she chooses to apply for and apply online.

Some Dos and Don’ts for XAT:

  • Need to solve as many sample test papers as possible.
  • Need to start answering the paper with the section which is his/her strongpoint
  • Time management is vital for XAT as there is no sectional time limit.
  • Need to be prepared for changes in the paper pattern.
  • Need to have a strategy but should not be firm about it.
  • Need to make some wild guesses.
  • Need not focus only on one section.
  • Need to take essay paper seriously. It proves decisive in Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
  • Apart from being a test of one’s knowledge base, it’s a test of how he/she can handle pressure.
